This week started with touring Clinica Biblica Santa Ana on Sunday. We unfortunately missed the Costa Rica national team playing in Estadio Nacional against Martinique for CONCACAF Nations League. Costa Rica won the game 2-0 and you could see thousands of people wearing red (color of their home jersey) the entire drive to the hospital. At the hospital we took some field notes and observed the process of X-Ray and CTE scans. That evening I slept on the floor my sunburn hurt so bad.
Cool Building I saw
The next day we continued to observe at CLinica Biblica but this time in San Jose downtown. Afterwards Douglas and I got Mcdonalds and determined that their McSpicys taste better than they do in the states. That afternoon we played some pool and cooked dinner just like every previous night.
The walk to McDonalds + Dougie
We started our 200 and 350 classes at ULACIT where we got this dope classroom with air conditioning all to ourselves. Took a break for lunch and played pool but on a much nicer table where the balls actually roll straight this time. Afterwards we split into groups to begin our 200 prototyping. My group is called 10/TENS cuz we all hot af. Leticia Alice and I have all been working non stop on our compression sock design to provide pain relief for nurses. That night we cooked up a feast. I made some banging pico and guac while Douglas cooked the rice and Brendan cooked some ground pork for TACO TUESDAY. Probably the second best dinner we’ve made our entire time here.
Wednesday we continued to work on our individual projects and also started drafting our needs statements. It was a fun but also pretty standard day filled of work and engineering in the morning and afternoon. That night we cooked Chifrijo which is a classic Costa Rican cuisine. It’s a bowl of rice and beans with fried pork(sausage in our case) topped with pico and sliced avocado. It’s also traditionally served with fried plantains as chips but we just bought regular tortilla chips because we are lazy.
Thursday was a time crunch of prototyping and brain numbing attempts at building a extremely rudimentary light system for our device along with learning how to stitch for some reason. Lunch we walked to Taco Bell(was still mid) and stopped at an electronics store to get some more materials. But by the end of the day we had a mostly complete prototype so it was all a success. That night we cooked chicken and made more rice and beans and stuff. We then planned the trip for the weekend and ordered hostels and everything. That night we went out with some of our friends from the medical bootcamp a week prior. Everyone had a blast, I wingmanned James into a Tica’s phone number, also then lost James in a bar later, I broke my bracelet and cut my leg after peeing in a rosebush. The night ended with everyone walking home safely. I kept a shot glass from the first bar we went to as a souvenir.
Friday we did out technical design reviews, and then went out into downtown San Jose to do objective observations. I met this guy from Utah who was trying to sell me his merchandise, I declined. It started raining and everything got super soaked. Went to Jade museum. Afterwards I made pasta and went to bed early because we had to get up at 5:45 tomorrow for the bus.
I typed two very long and detailed paragraphs for Saturday and Sunday but they both got deleted for no reason. I am now mad and will be very brief with it. At least you get pictures.
Saturday we went on a hike in a cloud forest.
Sunday we went zip lining and suspension bridge walking. Also got Uber Eats for dinner, lost my KFC virginity.
Twas a good week I hate this website.
