So it seems that my time in Costa Rica has ended; and it has most definitely been a time of joy, despair, and everything in between. Full disclaimer, as I am writing this post, I don’t fully remember what happened last week. Having spent 3 days away, my memories are fading. Did it really all happen? Was it all made up by the fog? Are we still in the fog?
Anyways, after an early bus ride back from Jaco on Monday morning, we were greeted the message that we would get to sleep in for the first time since coming to Costa Rica. Like I said, I don’t remember much about the week but I do remember that nap in the morning hit different. My dreams were so vivid that it may have lead to the loss of my passport (more on that later). After waking up, we immediately set off to Heredia where we spent the afternoon. Between then and Wednesday night, I don’t think anything super significant happened.
Maybe some highlights would be that Sarah and I got sick at around the same time so we spent the week coughing back and forth. We also did a design freeze on our Engi project and started to work on testing plans. Gary was also reborn around this time I think. We also did testing on ULACIT students which was fun.
Ngl, Wednesday night had me at my lowest point of the trip. I realized after coming back from ULACIT that I could not find my passport. I won’t go into too much detail because that would be a lot to write but basically I assumed it was in my locker and it was not so we spent a portion of the night trying to find it. As we moved through the options of where the passport could be, it became a more and more hopeless situation. It was terrible timing as my flight was in 2 days and to reschedule it would have been inconvenient. I also lost my right airpod 🙁
After a restless night, I got up at 7:30 to call the Canadian embassy and find my airpod (it was in my jacket pocket lmao). Honestly s/o Canada, I’m no nationalist but I love my country now more than ever. They told me that as long as I could get the required documents to them by noon that day, they could get me temporary passport by noon the next day. This timing worked out perfectly as I got to skip-class (hehe) and also got my passport in time. The whole process honestly went very smoothly and worked out in the end well.
I may have brought this upon myself in a way as I’ve always wanted a Canadian temporary passport. It’s white and gold and honestly looks so sexy. I wish our regular passports would look like that. Although this was not the situation I though that I would be in to receive one. All in all, I wouldn’t say I’d like to go through that again because it was a pretty stressful and expensive process but I’m glad that it resolved pretty good in the end. They did spell my name wrong (Jefferson -> Jeffernson) so I might have trouble getting back into Canada but I guess we’ll see…
With that, I think this is it. The last post. All I really got to say is that I definitely enjoyed myself more than I thought I would coming into this program and am glad to have done it. Also s/o to Dr. Wettergreen, Amy, the boys groupchat and all the OG parkinsimulators.
Damn we still got like 3 assignments left so not really done..
