Week three started off strong with a visit to the Doka Coffee plantation. Although it was a little touristy, it was still fun to walk through the coffee process. There we saw some giant hydrangea bushes and we drove through some of the beautiful Costa Rican Mountains. While at the coffee plantation we also noticed some crazy plants (I believe this one is called a Blue Tango)!
Then we rounded out the evening by going to the Harry Potter Pub. We were very pleasantly surprised at how accurate the theming of this restaurant was. I ate a delicious chicken sandwichcalled “the Ron”. Just look at that cross section. I also helped Sumin finish her butterbeer which was equally as good. The next day, we did pictionary in the park and Benji and I made PB&Js for lunch.
We spent the rest of the day in class brainstorming and choosing a solution for each of our assigned problems. I was part of team Under Pressure along with Benji and Elliot. We were designing a device to play music when a child
correctly held their gait trainer. It was a long day brainstormng, but in the end we cam up with what we thought was a good idea (that would soon change come the prototyping phase however). The next couple days we only had class from 1-5 so we spent the mornings doing activities like the butterfly garden (where we saw Blue Morphos and went on a spontaneous hike) and then we went to
Hacienda La Chimba for a longer hike on Wednesday morning. This was a 5k hike with little picture spots almost every kilometer. The best one was a wooden hand stretching over the forest.
We spent the next few days evaluating our solution and beginning to prototype. We realized (after a long while spent trying) that the code from the previous groups project would not be salvageablefor us to use and we would need to start from scratch. This led to a couple big changes to our design, but we figured it out in the end.
