What to Pack for Your Trip to Bologna

Here are all of my recommendations for stuff to pack after having been in Italy for the past almost 3 weeks! Overall, my recommendation is to pack light since you can buy pretty much everything else here that you need. I’m planning on going backpacking after iSEED ends, my list is a bit more geared for that, but also consider that you may want to go traveling to different cities in Italy for the weekend.

1 big backpack(carry-on size), 1 sling/fanny pack, 1 regular size backpack, 1 luggage bag (optional). Overall suitcases are kinda hard to lug around bc a lot of streets are cobblestone so would not recommend. And use packing cubes!

clothes(basically, enough to wear for 1 week):

  • 5 t-shirts
  • 2 comfortable slacks (personally, jeans suck)
  • 1 jogger for outdoors
  • 2 shorts
  • 7 underwear
  • 7 pairs of socks
  • 1 long sleeve shirt
  • 2 sweaters
  • 2 outer layer shirts
  • 1 rain jacket (invest in a nice, lightweight one)
  • 1 swim trunks
  • comfortable sneakers
  • slides

Honestly, it wasn’t that cold here, being around 50-70 degrees. But it did rain for maybe 15% of the days.

toiletries:

  • shampoo / conditioner (they have shampoo and bodywash here, but not conditioner)
  • toothbrush & toothpaste
  • floss
  • deodorant, cleanser, lotion, & sunscreen (you can buy it here also at a pharmacy or dm italia was cool)

tech:

  • laptop & charger
  • 2 outlet converters
  • phone charger
  • portable battery with usb charger
  • camera & charger (optional)
  • hard drive (optional)

misc:

  • passport & wallet (duh)
  • utensils (they have here at Social Hub)
  • medkit/meds
  • water bottle
  • notebook & pen
  • ziploc bags & trash bags
  • sunglasses & hat
  • locks (not necessary, but useful if you plan on going for overnight trips to hostels)
  • class materials

snacks/food(optional, but helpful for when you get sick of eating pizza/pasta every meal):

  • wtv you want honestly
  • microwaveable rice
  • a variety of ramen
  • curry mix

Good rice is hard to find here, so I definitely do not regret bringing the rice. This is mostly a Korean thing but the closest place I could find Kimchi was in Florence which was unfortunate. There are some Japanese and Chinese places close by though.

Next, I’ll try to do a mini dorm tour. Stay tuned 🙂
