The End

I am home! But we’ll get into that… This week was our final week in San Cristobal. My team and I had the experience of testing wetland water with Solar disinfection, explore the real life applications of how it feels to treat water, especially one that is not in a big plant. We used lime and sun to disinfect and moringa seeds for coagulation and flocculation-here’s some pictures from the experiment:

thinking about turbidity..?

i LOVE lime so this was toooo tempting

Well first we had to collect the water. Being able to go personally, see the people’s water source up-close and personal. See that there’s ants in the water, what it takes to fetch water, and even um smell the water (ew).

fetching water with a bucket

Here is some results that look pretty cool from our solar disinfection:

I was so happy when we got our results and saw a trend. As in our experiments proved theory!

We also had experiments such as going into an indigenous community to see how their structures were built (using adobe- clay, sand, and water mix). We got our hands dirty and helped the process, which was really cool, hands on quite literally. We also walked around the property which was on an island. We saw their source of clay that they had:

ooo clay source

basically hiking

being able to learn so hands-on in every perspective about every aspect of the water issue was something that I cherish so much. As someone who wants to go into the hydrology sector, I will quite literally never forget this. I also reallyyyy enjoyed Mexico, Viva Mexico!!

Excursions

Ok so I was basically obsessed with that boba shop that I mention in previous blogs. I think I went back 4-5 times in the last week.

I also got really emotional because they remembered my name and I didn’t even have to tell them. I thought about how they’ll never see me again :,(

Of course I had to bring the sophomore trio:

boba run

We also went back to Amor Negro as a team again, to get our final assignments in. It was a push but at least we did it at our favorite place one last time.

last group cafe run

And of course, our closing dinner. It was very nice to see the traditions of Chiapas and say a nice goodbye to the group. I really appreciated the experience.

peace

And then I landed in CDMX, then Houston, my home. I loved being able to have such an experience but I also missed my family and friends. I am happy to be home.

hello houston!

Well that’s it from me. I hope you enjoyed keeping up.

One last goodbye,

Gwyneth Perez
