Salutations

Hi! I’m Charlie, and I’m a rising senior studying civil engineering. I’m thrilled to go on the iSEED Mexico trip this summer and have a study abroad experience! I hail from the winningest college, Jones (JIBA!), and am a proud member of the MOB, where I play flute. When I’m not at Rice I live near Dallas, and I enjoy city-building video games, gardening, and getting too emotionally invested in tv show characters.

I don’t know the exact area of civil engineering I want to work in, and this trip is part of the ongoing process in figuring out what I want to be when I grow up. I’m probably most interested in transportation engineering, and I’d love to be able to work on public transit systems someday in the future. Even if I don’t ever work explicitly with water systems, I’m excited to get experience with design and doing projects to prepare me for wherever I end up.

This past semester I took CEVE 315: Urban Water Systems, which explored drinking water and wastewater treatment in traditional urban settings. I’m really interested to see both how things I learned in that class apply in a more specific context and how some processes may differ entirely when off the grid!

This is me on a field trip to West University Wastewater Treatment Plant last semester.
