salve italia!

ciao!

I’m Logan, a rising Junior from Martel College (mbym <3) studying Bioengineering. I’m also a member of the Women’s Swim & Dive team.

Enough about me, I can’t believe it’s only been a week here! Bologna is gorgeous and the food is of course amazing. I guess the class is good, too 😉

Week 1 has included a lot of exploring, both in the city and in class. Our first lessons have set up all of the basics of Arduino, and I’ve really enjoyed all of the practical exercises that we do. After almost every lesson we are given time to explore the concepts and tinker with new codes and circuits. I keep sending my dad videos, like one where I morse coded SOS with LEDs (not related to the trip experience lol).

In the time after class, I’ve also been quite busy. Taking advantage of the free bike system here at the Social Hub, my classmates and I have done quite a bit of exploring, visiting the local landmarks, churches, and of course restaurants. One of these Shreya and I were completely unprepared for, as the 2.2 km hike at a 40° angle up to the Santuario de Nuestra Señora de San Luca near about took us out. I also was able to secure a membership a the local Olympic pool to continue my swim training. We also participated in the Social Hub’s weekly cooking class, getting a lesson on fresh pasta and pesto sauce. On Wednesday, Bologna FC played in the Coppa Italian Final against Milan and won for the first time in 51 years! (My nephew back home was devastated but oh well.) I can’t say I’m an avid football viewer or anything, but I certainly enjoyed watching the match and experiencing the energy of the spectators at a nearby viewing party. On Friday, I flew to visit and friend who lives in Belfast, Ireland, taking the opportunity to do so as Italy is certainly a lot closer to her than Houston. Here are some photos from the adventures!
