EDES 200 & 301, Weeks 2 & 3

The past 2 weeks have been pretty packed, but now that it’s over I miss it already 🙁

We finished up the EDES 301 lectures so we got the basics of Arduino down. We began designing and prototyping our final project — our team decided to build an automated trash system for home use to improve accessibility for the elderly and anyone with mobility impairments in general.

We also visited various museums and the underground discharge tunnels. The museums helped inform our design choices (especially the Park of Ageing exhibit; it helped put into perspective what kind of features are necessary for a product to be truly accessible to the elderly).

The bulk of this week was truly just prototyping. At one point we spent like 15 consecutive hours trying to get our prototype to work. It kinda does? Not really. I was disappointed with our final project, but regardless of the results it ended up being an incredibly valuable experience for me. I came in with very limited Arduino experience, but now I am much more confident with this skill and am ready to apply it to future projects 🙂

I’m gonna miss yall!
