KENYA WEEK 3

This past week was the first week of the EDES 200 class. We started by selecting projects for the course, which stemmed from the needs we identified in the previous course (EDES 350). The project I selected was a project to design a device for Community Health Promoters (CHPs) across Kenya to making screening for common diseases easier and more convenient. This week was mainly about understanding the problem, brainstorming solutions, and coming up with concept prototypes. We’ve narrowed it down to our two best ideas, and next week we will continue to prototype and hopefully build a final solution. We’ve been brainstorming and doing research at our hotel then going to Kenyatta University to use their makerspace. Currently, I’m learning how to CAD, as I’ve never 3D printed by myself before, and this project is giving me the opportunity to develop some technical skills. This weekend me and the other iSeed students from Rice went to Diani beach, which is a beautiful beach in Kenya. We got to relax on next to the ocean, go snorkeling, go swimming, and overall have an amazing time. I’m looking forward to building our final solution next week!
