Elliot’s 3rd Week in San Jose, CR

In our third week in Costa Rica, we started ENGI 200 led by Professor Bisesti. Fortunately, ULACIT (La Universidad Latinoamericana de Ciencia y Tecnología) was generous enough to lend us their maker space during class (1-5 PM). At the maker space, I worked with my team, Under_Pressure (Izzie, Benji, & me), on a project involving a pediatric gait trainer attachment to incentivize using the handlebars via music (Baby Shark). We definitely had a rocky start, as we struggled with troubleshooting the past team’s prototype’s electronics, Arduino IDE code, and mobile app code. After a few days of spending our precious prototyping time on troubleshooting the past prototype with little progress, we decided to pivot our original project plan and completely remove the Bluetooth phone connection from the device. This would mean that we would need to integrate a speaker, dial, and screen to our device, essentially recreating the fundamentals of the phone. The project tasks were daunting, yet we continued to work.

Outside of class, we explored Costa Rica.

Before class one day, we decided to hike a 5k with great views of the mountains.

The hike was worth it, but class after was definitely more tiring than usual…

We also went to a coffee plantation and had some supposedly better coffee. The coffee was definitely good with sugar and creamer, but I’m not really sure what makes it better. We then visited a butterfly garden at the plantation.

Very eventful week 3 at Sanose indeed.
