Callum’s Third Week

Monday 5/20:

We had class but Gwyn was out sick :<. During 350, Liam came back and his mom was there too!! (Oh yeah, on Saturday, Liam had to go to the hospital to have his appendix removed). Had the rest of 350 then worked on the 350 project. We had second class and all was well. I thinkkkk we didn’t do anything and just chilled/slept.

High: Chill Day
Low: Gwyn and Liam both not being in class
Buffalo: We didn’t leave the villa
Looking Forward To: Lmao, IDK

Tuesday 5/21:

Woke up and had classes. I literally don’t remember what happened (I think we went to Amor Negero). Gin most likely then sleep. I have no pics from today or yesterday so other than class and work, not much was happening.

High: IDK
Low: Not much low, very chill two days
Buffalo: The fact I can’t remember anything that happened
Looking Forward To: Sleep (?)

Wednesday 5/22:

Woke up and had class. It went well, going through the different things that make a good process map. Dr. Loyo did not have class but he was there so we worked on our projects for both classes and asked questions. Was hella efficient. I took a big ol nap but I don’t know why, I think I am starting to slow down. Woke up and did dinner.

High: Worked efficiently
Low: Nap that made it hard to sleep
Buffalo: Napped
Looking Forward To: No class the next day basically for either class and just getting a chance to work through stuff, 2 classes basically in 3 weeks is no joke.

Thursday 5/23:

Slept in on accident and woke up at 10:30, apparently people were worried but the just let me sleep. Luckily I didn’t miss much because it was a work day… phew. Did work with the group Lowkey have no idea what we did for most of the day. From my pics of the day, we went to the store with Dr. Loyo to get supplies. I learned there are no graham crackers in Mexico, and I was told it’s a very American thing lol which is fair, I was just craving them. I put my hair in an afro, and it felt good to see my hair out again. Slept at an okay time.

High: Store
Low: Waking up hella late
Buffalo: Slow day
Looking Forward To: Graham Crackers

Friday 5/24:

Woke up and got into cabs to go to Encuentro. It is an absolutely beautiful area and there were dogs!!! At Encuentro, we first saw upstream of the really dirty river we looked at and smelled the other day, there was a real spring!! (they apparently thing it’s an offshoot of the same river even further up stream).

We went inside and talked about all of the different types of water filtration systems. We then saw a real life version of one of their filtration systems and learned about the kinda up keep it takes and the difficulties with implementing the systems in communities. Later we got to see a dry vs wet bathroom and how both systems operate is very interesting:

The dry on is similar to the other ones we saw where you separate liquid and solids then cover with some kinda sawdust substance though they used coffee sheadings. The waste then goes into a container and they have diff methods for making them compost safe
For the wet, they create a artificial marsh(?) that helps filter the solid and liquid and acts as a bio filter producing water clean enough to be used for irrigation without further treatment

After Encuentro, we rode into town on a truck! We split into two groups to go to get the place to eat. Dr. Loyo, me, Kiana, Nanny, Gwyn | Liam, Jordi, Sammy, Brian. We got to see Dr. Loyo’s place and he gave us sugar because we ran out a couple days ago. I rode with Dr. Loyo to the place and it was a good conversation. At the place I had a bomb burger, fries, and a pretty alright hot chocolate. On the walk back, I had a funny convo about how I didn’t think I was gonna get married and if I do, i want it to be small (I have no idea how this came up) and we were joking that next year I’ll have a 500 person wedding and I said Id make sure to invite the ISeed Group (I learned Dr. Loyo is ordained. We then went home, played gin, and went to sleep.

Couple side notes:
A couple days ago, Rice posted me on their insta and LinkedIn so I sped updated my profile. I still can’t believe it. Also I didn’t know it yet but I would completely forget to charge my phone so I went into the next day with like 60 percent.

High: Burger
Low: I am still engaging with the content but staying on top of the individual assignments is still the biggest struggle. Participating in group work is going fine and the assignments are running smoothly for the most part.
Buffalo: Truck Ride
Looking Forward To: Me, Kiana, Brian, Nancy, and Jordi are going to see some waterfalls and lagoons tomorrow. (From the future me: We did not get a chance to go into any water like we thought we would be able to. The one place would have been very expensive, and we didn’t know it was our only chance)

Closing Remarks:

This week was a lot of learning and new experiences that were amazing to grow from.
